We are often asked which oil we prefer for jute rope: tsubaki oil or jojoba oil.

The short answer is that we like them both.

Camellia oil has for many years been used for the care of natural fibres and is a classic choice among many who work with shibari. Jojoba oil is known for its stability and is also used by many for rope care.

So one day we asked ourselves the question:

"Why choose?"

The result was FiftyFifty Rebolie.

A simple blend of 100 % cold-pressed tsubaki oil and jojoba oil, where we combine the two oils in a single bottle. Not because one replaces the other, but because we like what each one brings to the mix.

That is the oil we reach for ourselves when a rope starts to feel dry or is in need of a little care.

What does it contain?

• 100 % cold-pressed camellia oil (tsubaki oil)
• Jojoba oil

Light amber.

How we use it

Apply a few drops of oil to a cloth or directly into your hand, and work the oil into the rope while pulling it steadily through your hand.

It doesn't take much. A rope rarely needs large amounts of oil. Let the rope rest for a bit so the oil can penetrate the fibres before it is used again.

Henrik's tip

We do not use oil after every binding.

When a rope starts to feel a bit dry, we give it a light treatment. Often a few drops are enough. The most important thing is to work the oil well into the fibres, not to use as much as possible.
