What is the difference between aluminium and steel?

kN stands for kilonewton and indicates the strength of the carabiner. 1 kN corresponds to approximately 102 kg of force. The manufacturer often specifies several values that show the carabiner's strength under different loads.

What do the strengths mean for longitudinal, transverse, and open port?

A firearm is typically tested in three situations:

  • Closed lengthwise is the carabiner's strongest position and the way it is intended to be loaded.
  • Closed across affects the strength if the load lies across the carabiner, which should always be avoided.
  • Open port shows the strength, if the gate is not fully closed. This value is significantly lower and emphasizes why the gate must always be properly closed during use.
What is the difference between breaking strength and WLL?

Breaking strength is the load at which the product is expected to fail under laboratory testing. WLL (Working Load Limit) is the maximum recommended working load specified by the manufacturer for normal use. WLL is always significantly lower than the breaking strength and is the value to consider when in use.

Should I maintain my carabiners?

Yes. Regularly check your carabiners for wear, deformation, cracks, or other damage. Also, ensure the gate and locking mechanism function correctly, and replace the carabiner if it shows signs of damage or no longer functions as it should.
