Facilitating a workshop on electro play in rope

“That. Was. WILD!”

We could not have been more delighted than to see the smiles, to hear the laughter and yelps, as our electro-play equipment and toys were used in a workshop that covered combining ropes with electro play.

Safety is hugely important in Shibari, Kinbaku and rope bondage: we cannot underline this often enough, and it rightly deserves a foundational place in all tuition. Safety is also of paramount importance when playing with electro-toys. So naturally, that was where the presentation started.

Fundamentals in place? Nerding done? It was time for an intense demo: not only did all the attendees have the chance to feel for themselves the output of some of our range of toys – they were also close enough to witness the trembling legs and droplets of sweat displayed by the bad-ass model as she squatted in a mean predicament with e-stim pads placed on her calves and thighs. Through all the shocks and zaps her reactions were unfiltered and highly appreciated. Laughter, smiles and shakes a-plenty!

Here at Ropes&Riggers we are privileged to have built relationships on implicit trust, communication, and a hefty dose of humor. We giggled and yelped along with the participants through a range of sensations: from the sharp, static fizz of violet wands and prods, via the disconcerting yet gentle waves of TENS pads, to the explosions of pain when wearing a pet’s shock collar on a thigh, to the ultimate in delightful agony: E-Stim plugs, pads and wires.

We could imagine that it helps to describe electro-play as possibly being similar to the varying degrees of impact play. Electro play also offers a wide spectrum of options: Where there is “surface” and “sting” of thin, whippy canes – or “deep” and “heavy” punches from fists, people may find they have preferences when deciding with which electro toys they most enjoy playing. Surface and static? Deeper, and in surges?

Not least, the type of rope being tied will influence the choice of electrical play.

A leg-shaking predicament? Perhaps E-Stim pads on the large muscle groups will provide a thrilling new dimension. Shame and semenawa? Possibly ripe for tantalizing threats of static shocks from a violet wand. Tied like a crab, or in a gynecology chair? Sound-activated plugs might be an absolute (mind)-game.

We would love to hear about your own adventures; and whatever your predilections – be safe, be responsible, and enjoy your experiences!

Until next time,

R&R

The Masked and Masquerade Ball

The Masked and Masquerade Ball

The Masked

and Masquerade Ball

Masked to us as the audience, the Phantom pulled a sack over his captive’s head and danced with her,

Writing this blog post has been a challenge – even though our fingers have been burning for months.
First came the many emotions in the run-up to this particular performance – at the ManiFest Masked Ball – and then a whole cascade of them when we were on stage.
Whether words can ever do justice to the atmosphere, we don’t know, but maybe this post can give you a glimpse of what we felt.

Is it art?
Kink?
A message?
Hedonistic pleasure – or pure BDSM?
Maybe all at once.
Or maybe just two people having a wonderful time in front of an audience of hundreds of excited partygoers.

As is so often the case, both the beauty – and the beast – is in the eye of the beholder, and in the meaning you attach to what you see.

“The Phantom of the Opera is here… Inside my mind…”
lifted through heavy, dark dance rhythms in the packed hall.
A masked phantom danced with his hooded captive – held by compact knots and tight ropes.
Twisted, whipped, doused by jugs of water…

“How long since your last confession?
asked the music as the dark rhythms pulsed in time with the sinful lights.
A burlap sack was lifted from the captive’s head – revealing layers of wet strips of fabric wrapped around her face.
The mask theme was mirrored in this double layer of hidden identity.

“I have plenty of experience in this
sang the voice as the Phantom played with her – eliciting reactions that the audience followed with delight.

Once.
Twice.
Three times she was lowered head first into the tub of water – gasping for air between each dip, body beautifully bound in intricate shibari.

On the surface, a hot, steamy performance designed to titillate an already uplifted audience.
The smile on both the Phantom and the bound woman as the final notes faded away was pure and genuine joy.

But… step a little closer.
Ask a few more questions.

Just like when the cloths around the face were unwound to reveal another layer – a blindfold that again hid the face – ask yourself:
Is everything as it seems?

Is this a classic example of male dominance?
Or does the captive have as much influence on the choreography as the Phantom himself?
Does that knowledge change the way we see it?
Or should we just allow ourselves to enjoy the raw, unfiltered hedonism of the moment?

Could the bag symbolize the superficial assumptions and prejudices that blind us?
And the two layers underneath – could they remind us that even when we peel away our initial biases, we are still unable to see the truth?
A blindfold of “we cannot know what we do not know ” – another layer of ego we must acknowledge before we can see clearly.

But what is truth really?
Can a truth, forced in the heat of the dance, be trusted at all?
Or is it perhaps not coercion at all – but rather a purification in the bosom of water?

Will those who suppress the voices of others one day understand that even behind their own masks, the bound will rise up – look them in the eye – and take back power?

Can we see hope in her choice – a glimpse of a future where the past is washed away by insight and honesty?
Where we, as fellow human beings, recognize our shared vulnerability – and leave the stage together, in harmony?

A recording of a similar performance can be seen HERE.
Read and interpret the art as you wish.

Until next time,

Hi there! How are you?

Hi there! How are you?

Hi there! How are you?

Berlin & Central Germany –

Welcome to Ropes & Riggers Ropes & Riggers and our latest blog post.
It’s been a long time coming, but we’re excited to finally share it with you.

Hi there! How are you? 😏

Let’s jump right in – with some deep, honest questions.
Take a moment. Let them land in your body:

  • What are your current rope dreams?
  • Have they changed over time?
  • Are these dreams floating in the wind – or do you have plans to make them come true?

Often we can only dream of what we already know. And when the dream becomes reality – it surpasses any fantasy we thought we could imagine.

A kinky oasis south of Berlin

That’s exactly how we felt on our recent trip to Germany. We traveled to a special place south of Berlin. – a playground filled with some of the most elaborate BDSM and bondage equipment we’ve ever had the pleasure of using.

And the icing on the cake? Beam after beam – solid, raw, smooth and beautifully lacquered. Perfect for hashira, predicament play, partial suspensions and flying fantasies of all kinds.

And the cherry on top? A freestanding bathtub with a suspension point above. A wet room with a triangular shower head. And an extra wide fireplace that invited warmth and contemplation.

Rope, warmth and revisiting old forms

After hours of intense and creative rope play, we immersed ourselves in the possibilities the rope opens up – both technically and emotionally.

Think back: do you remember your first suspension? Or the first time you saw someone tied to a hashira? Now imagine repeating that experience – but this time with more confidence, deeper connection. Imagine a double-ceilinged barn, a beam reaching two stories up. A scorpion position where, upon release, your head slides into warm, waiting water… or directly into the lap of your rigger.

It was magical.

When bonding develops

We still reflect on how our own dreams have changed over time. Returning to familiar bindings – but with new surroundings or new technical twists – can open up a whole new world of emotions and challenges.

A bond that once felt uncomfortable can now feel safe and familiar. And vice versa – a simple, basic bond can evolve into something deep, exhausting, and tear-inducing with the right intensity and intention.

We love to share glimpses of these experiences – not just pictures, but also moods and emotions. It’s an honor to be able to show you some of what we’ve experienced.

What do you dream of on the rope?

We believe that it takes courage to dream – and even more to live your dreams. But in the rope, in the meeting between you and the other, there is room for both.

Thank you for following us on our journey. We’re already looking forward to sharing even more moments, bonds and adventures with you.

Until next time – with ropes, heat and wild dreams 🖤

A deep rope encounter at Embodiment Rope Space

At Ropes & Riggers, we’re passionate about rope – not just the technique, but also the intention, connection and deeper layers of Kinbaku, Shibari and all things rope. We never forget our roots, but we always want to grow – to expand our horizons, learn more, and correct course when necessary.

And speaking of roots and development, we’re glad you’re on the journey with us. No matter where you are in your own rope practice – beginner or experienced – we invite you to go deep, learn openly and stay curious.

Journey south of the equator

Have you considered what your intentions are in your bondage journey? What are your desires and goals – and why?

We had time to feel into just that when we traveled far south – to beautiful Cape Town and the unique Embodiment Rope Space. It was a long journey, filled with anticipation, thoughts and dreams. And when we arrived, we were greeted by a wonderful community, filled with warm souls and open minds.

We shared hours on soft cushions under fairy lights, drank rooibos tea and let the conversations flow freely. It was touching to see how similar – and yet different – our rope communities are. Culture and context play a role, but the rope… the rope unites us.

And yes – we had the honor of writing our names on their wooden suspension rig. A beautiful symbol of the connection between us.

Showmanship and intense energy

Our love of rope performance was reignited when we took the stage in front of an intense, curious audience.

HenRigger tied up against a white wall with raw texture, the light cast dramatic shadows and dark rhythms pumped in the room. The ropes spun around Rose in a tale of power, resistance, collaboration – and surrender.
A heavy green crystal was tied to her body in a strappado-based backbend.
The audience got to hold the taut rope that held the crystal up – and feel the vibrations of her body through the rope.

We went from tears to laughter – and the audience followed us all the way. When our play ended, we were overwhelmed by the warm support. Sharing something you love and having it mirrored back… it’s pure magic.

A deep, private session

We also had the precious experience of being invited into a private bonding room with a local couple. In peace and safety, we explored together – with water, blindfolds, shame and pride, pain and pleasure. Time flew by. And we still feel in awe of having shared those moments.

“Want to experience a private session for yourself? Write to us”

Ropes, learning and bodies in motion

We also taught a full workshop during our stay. Facilitating learning is one of our deepest motivations. Not only for the participants – but also for ourselves.

We love meeting different body types, intentions and experiences. Finding solutions that fit exactly where people are. And seeing how technique and confidence merge in the body.

“See our workshops HERE”

Pause for thought on the journey home

On our way home to Denmark, we were still buzzing with impressions. We saw our own ties in a new light – both the simple bonds against dramatic natural landscapes and the intimate moments in small studios. From the roar of the audience to the deep silence of a tie.
Everything was woven together into an experience we will never forget.

Gratitude and inspiration

Our deepest thanks go to the team behind Embodiment Rope Space. We encourage you to visit their website and read about their values – we feel strongly connected to their intentions and approach.

Reflection: What moves you in the rope?

Have you thought about the types of connections you experience in rope? Do music, light and texture influence your sessions?
Whether you’re just starting out or you have many meters of rope behind you, we wish you the most beautiful journey.

Until next time, with ropes and love
